We all receive invitations through the mail, email, and by phone. Most of the invitations that we receive are meaningless because we have no clue how the inviting party even knew we existed! Then there are invitations which come from very dear family and friends: we take these very seriously and make every effort to attend.

In Matthew 22:1-14, a wedding invitation is revealed by Jesus in a parable which is ultimately about Israel’s rejection of God’s invitation to enter the kingdom of His Son. This is the third parable that Jesus shared with the upset religious leaders, another parable exposing their personal rejection of the Father.

In this parable Jesus used a wedding invitation to reveal how some individuals refused to attend, some attempted to ignore the invitation, others attempted to attend inappropriately dressed, and finally there were those that responded wholeheartedly to the King’s invitation.
