Since 2006, Hillcrest has gathered each year for our Global Impact Celebration (GIC), a weekend to corporately celebrate God’s work around the world and renew our commitment to the Great Commission. With powerful times of corporate worship and fascinating interaction with guest missionaries, the weekend is a time of celebration for God’s work. But GIC is also a time of commitment. As a church body, we will commit ourselves to sacrificial prayer, giving, and personal involvement in Jesus’ Great Commission. Dozens of individuals have been called to serve in both local and distant missions during GIC.
All during this time, the good news—the Message of the kingdom—will be preached all over the world, a witness staked out in every country. And then the end will come. – Matthew 24:14
This year’s theme is “Facing a Task Unfinished.” Our theme verse this year, Matthew 24:14, undescores our theme in that until all the nations have heard the Gospel of the Kingdom, that our task is indeed unfinished. GIC will challenge you to answer this call and use your unique gifts and abilities to serve in His global harvest field. Jesus told His disciples “As the Father sent Me, so send I you (John 20:21). His church retains the same call today.
This year’s GIC kicks off with dinner on Wednesday, February 22 and a message from Duane Ostrem, the immediate past President of the International Mission Board. Each Sunday School class will interact with guest missionaries during an informal class fellowship on Friday and throughout the weekend. There will be a church-wide missions breakfast followed by a question and answer forum with our GIC guests. Following the forum, there will be Equipping seminars to help you dive deeper into missions. Our Saturday events will wrap up with season of prayer in our Men and Women’s Prayer Circles. On Sunday morning, Duane OStrem will present the message at our 9:00 and 10:30 AM services. Michael Ortiz, an Associate Professor World Missions & Intercultural Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, will preach at the 11:00 AM service at Hillcrest en Español.
Our Global Focus Offering, which promotes systematic giving, is emphasized during GIC weekend. It supports most of the missions projects at our church. Over $118,000 was given in 2015. Pray about your part in the Global Focus Offering and plan to join us for a wonderful weekend of celebration and commitment. God is doing great things around His world and we get to play a part!
