Good morning! I’m glad to welcome you to worship today at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
In 1970, futurist Alvin Toffler published the book Future Shock. In Future Shock, he made the prediction that instead of wedding “until death do us part,” couples will enter matrimony, knowing from the start that the relationship is short-lived, and that when the opportunity presents itself, they will marry again, and again, and again. Toffler predicted that, in our culture, we will come to a point when we longer have a Biblical or sacred view of marriage.
Personally, I do not believe that anyone gets married with the attitude that their marriage will not last. Tragically, divorce has impacted many, if not every, family present today. I would imagine that each of us can give testimony to the heartache and pain that we or one of our family members have gone through because of a divorce.
Regardless of the position you find yourself in today–divorced, divorced and remarried, in a turbulent marriage, or in a great marriage—God’s grace is always sufficient. Start where you are and seek the Lord with all your heart, so that He will be Lord over all of your life and relationships. Then He will use your life, and marriage (if you are married), to be a picture and witness of the gospel to all around you.
