Good morning! I’m glad to welcome you to worship today at Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Just before our Lord returned to heaven, He gave to His followers of every generation their mission and purpose. Today we call Jesus’ final command the Great Commission, found in Matthew 28:19-20. As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are to “go” and “teach” others the gospel.

In addressing the church’s mission/purpose for existence, Dr. Jerry Vines has stated: “I want you to follow with me certain statements that I believe give us the irresistible logic of the main business of the church. If there is a heaven, AND THERE IS, and if there is a hell, and there is, and if Jesus died on the cross to make it possible for people to go to heaven and not go to hell, then the most important business of the church is to let people know that they do not have to go to hell. They can go to heaven because Jesus died on that cross for their sins and made it possible for them to go to heaven.”

The marching orders of the Church are to go and tell someone about Jesus. Going and telling is the main purpose of our existence as a local church. We do not exist to sit and soak on our way to Heaven while the lost all around us rush speedily and blindly to hell.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “So everywhere we go, we tell everyone about Christ. We warn them and teach them with all the wisdom God has given us, for we want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. I work very hard at this, as I depend on Christ’s mighty power that works in me.” (Colossians 1:28-29, NLT)

So, “why go tell someone”?
