Good morning! I’m glad to welcome you to worship today at Hillcrest Baptist Church.

This is the third message in the sermon series Emmanuel–God with Us. In learning about how God is with us, we are looking at Isaiah 9:6, where we find four titles that are given to Jesus: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Since there are more than 700 names in the Bible to describe the awesome God we serve, we will only get a glimpse into the infinite majesty and glory of God.

Today will look at His name Mighty God. Mighty God speaks of the “Power of Accomplishment.” It is a statement of deity. The baby born in the manger is not just the Son of God, he is also God the Son. All the fullness of God dwells in the Lord Jesus Christ. As the ancient creeds declare, He is “very God of very God.” That can never be said of any mere human baby.

Jesus, Emmanuel, brought Mighty God to dwell with man. As Mighty God, we can fully trust in His power to save and keep us, lead us, battle for us, provide for us, and to take us home to heaven to live with Him, but ultimately His unequaled power brings glory to Himself.
