Good morning! I’m glad to welcome you to worship today at Hillcrest Baptist Church. 

Do you ever feel confused? No doubt everyone feels confused from time to time. As we work our way through twists and turns of life we all need some help. We need guidance, direction and advice. Regardless of our experiences, wisdom or intelligence, sometimes life gets extremely complicated and we just can’t seem to figure out on our own the answers or directions. No matter how smart or well-informed we may be about certain areas we do not know all there is about every area of life. From the time we were born, we have needed guidance, and as we get older, those who are wise will continue to seek guidance, especially godly and biblical guidance.

Proverbs speaks to this need as well.

Proverbs 11:14 – Where there is no counsel, a people fall.

Proverbs 15:22 – Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.

Proverbs 20:18 – Plans are established by counsel; by wise guidance wage war.

As we come to the second sermon in our series EMMANUEL, God With Us, we will learn of how EMMANUEL is OUR WONDERUL COUNSELOR. In Isaiah 9:6 we are given four names of Christ that describe His divine character. The first name WONDERFUL COUNSELOR, speaks to our need for God’s guidance in life’s journey. As the Wonderful Counselor, He gives perfect guidance to His people, and those that choose to follow Him will walk in light and not darkness.
