Most of us have sung the song “Great and Mighty is the Lord Our God.”

Great and mighty is the LORD our God
Great and mighty is He
Great and mighty is the LORD our God
Great and mighty is He

Lift up your banner, let the anthems ring
Praises to our King
Great and mighty is the LORD our God
Great and mighty is He

Just as with many other songs that we sing, we seem to have a great “head knowledge” of how great and mighty the Lord our God is, but when it comes to life application, it seems that we do not see our God as very great and mighty.

In Psalm 86:8-10 we will learn that regardless of what we may face, our God is greater. He is Adonai! The name Adonai (Adonay) comes from the singular word Adon, which translates as “master” or “ruler.” It contains the concepts of “dominion,” “rulership,” and “ownership.” So, God, Elohim, creator of the heavens and the earth, is also Adonai, the owner of all that He has created. Therefore, since God is the creator and the owner, the only appropriate response is total surrender and submission to Him. When we come to full surrender and submission, we will come to know Him as our Lord and our master, and then we will experience all that He can do in and through our lives and all that we face.

God wants His people to see that no matter what we are facing, He is greater! He is Adonai! All He is waiting on, is for us to surrender all that we are and have to Him, our Adonai.
