In our series “He Is,”we have come to know that God goes by the name of Elohim (Creator), Yahweh (LORD, the Covenant keeper), Adonai (Lord and Master), and El Shaddai (God Almighty). As we learn to call God by His many names, our knowledge and awe of the Almighty will grow in our faith and trust in Him. Psalm 9:10—Those who know Your name will put their trust in You.
Today our focus is on Jehovah-Jireh, God is our Provider. The Scriptures teach that God loves to meet the needs of His people. In Matthew 10:29-30 we are told that: “Not even a sparrow, worth only half a penny, can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.” Jesus was emphasizing the fact that if God cares about such a small thing, will He not care and provide for His own children? Of course, the answer is obvious, He will take care of us.
Just as God provided for Daniel when he was in the den of lions, for David when he faced Goliath, for the Israelites in the wilderness, for a widow and her son, and for Gideon when he faced the great army of the Midianites, God loves to provide for His people, but, as we will learn in Genesis 22:1-14, He often waits for us to “let go.”
