Helping Kids see the big picture

At Hillcrest, it’s a priority that we teach God’s Word to every child—at every age and every stage of life. From babies through students, we use The Gospel Project® by Lifeway to guide our teaching and help kids discover that the Bible is not just a collection of stories—but one unified story of God’s redemption through Jesus.

The Gospel Project® is a Christ-centered, chronological Bible study that helps kids see how every story in Scripture points to Jesus. Each week, kids are invited into the good news of the gospel and encouraged to respond in faith and obedience.

When Jesus is at the center of every story, kids will never miss the opportunity to know Him and understand Him as the hope and salvation of the world.

what to expect Each Week

Every Sunday, kids will experience the good news of the gospel through a Bible study that is:

  • Christ-Centered
Every lesson points to Jesus—He’s not just part of the story; He is the story.
  • Heart-Transforming
True change comes not from behavior modification, but from a relationship with Jesus through the gospel.
  • Age-Aligned
Each child studies the same section of Scripture each week, adapted for their age and stage.
  • Chronological
The entire narrative of Scripture is taught in order, from Genesis to Revelation.
  • Theologically Rich
Doctrinally sound and age-appropriate lessons help build a strong foundation of faith.
  • Missionally Minded Every session encourages kids to live out the gospel by loving God and others

Preschool

Preschoolers meet during both the 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM services. Through Bible stories, music, fun crafts, games that get them moving, and hands-on activities, our youngest learners begin to discover who God is, how much He loves them, and that Jesus is the center of it all.

“Preschoolers begin building a foundation of faith by learning that the Bible is one big story of God’s love and that everything points to Jesus.”

1st – 3rd Grade

During the 9:00 AM hour, our early elementary kids dig into God’s Word with interactive Bible study that connects truth to everyday life. With music, games, videos, hands-on activities, and small group discussion, they begin to understand what it means to follow Jesus and live out their faith.

“Elementary kids don’t just learn Bible stories—they begin to understand how those stories fit together and what they mean for their lives today.”

4th - 6th Graders

Our preteens walk through Scripture chronologically and begin to see how it all connects to Jesus. This is a time when faith becomes personal, and our goal is to help them understand not just what the Bible says—but how the gospel changes their hearts, their identity, and how they live in the world.

“As preteens dig into Scripture, they discover how the gospel changes everything—not just what they believe, but how they live each day.”

Special Needs Ministry

Every child is made in the image of God, and we want every child and family to feel welcome at Hillcrest. Our goal is for children with special needs, who feel comfortable doing so, to learn and grow in a class with their peers. We provide each child who needs special help with a buddy to minister to their needs. We also provide a sensory room for children who need a less stimulating environment.

We want to do everything we can to meet your child’s and your family’s needs. Please contact us and let us know the best ways to minister to your child with special needs.

We believe kids are not just the future of the Church—they are a vital part of it right now.
At Hillcrest, we’re committed to helping every child know God’s Word, understand the gospel, and grow in a relationship with Jesus that lasts a lifetime.

We desire to encounter God and equip believers to engage others with the gospel.
